Look Inside the Mazda Miata

February 17th, 2023 by

If you’re shopping for a new roadster, you must consider the Mazda Miata. This drop-top two-seater offers an expressive exterior style, impressive driving dynamics, and an upscale interior with thoughtful features. Mazda makes the Miata in three equipment levels, each with a unique fit and finish. To help you decide which model suits you best, we asked our vehicle experts to compile a list of interior features and other essential elements.

2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Trim Levels, Pricing, and Option Packages

Trim Level MSRP Options Option Price
2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport $28,050 None N/A
2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club $31,550 Brembo BBS Recaro Package $4,500
2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring $33,050 None N/A

The Club edition is a build-only model, while the Sport and Grand Touring trims come as they are without any options. The Brembo BBS Recaro package adds premium style and performance to an already flashy car. The package includes Brembo front brakes with red calipers and Mazda rear brakes with red calipers. You also get BBS forged 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a Dark Gunmetal finish wrapped in high-performance tires. Mazda includes an aero kit of side sill extensions and a rear bumper skirt in Brilliant Black. And you get heated Black Recaro sport seats bolstered for comfort and support.

2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport Interior

If you’re looking for a cavernous cabin with space to move about, the Miata isn’t the car for you. You don’t simply sit in the Miata; you wear it like your favorite sweater. You immediately notice the upscale design and materials as you slide inside the two-door coupe. Mazda adhered to the Japanese “less is more” philosophy when they put together the Miata cabin. So you don’t see many bells and whistles, but you find comfort.

The Sport trim features premium Black cloth upholstery. Miata’s sport bucket seats with padded armrests feel like they were built around your body, offering a more connected and comfortable driving experience. In addition, Mazda developed a new technology in 2022 called Kinematic Posture Control (KPC).

KPC enhances your connection to the Miata using slight brake input to the inner rear wheel during high-g cornering. This brake input pulls down the inside rear of the vehicle, suppressing body roll and delivering a linear steering feel through tight corners. And when you accelerate through a corner, the KPC system uses slightly stronger braking input. As a result, the limited slip effect gets enhanced, providing a secure and thrilling experience.

With a driver-centric cockpit, all your controls sit within easy reach. The steering wheel has your audio, infotainment, and cruise control conveniently mounted on the cross-section. A mesh aero board wind blocker deflects the wind when the top is down, sparing your hair and keeping your hat on your head.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel, parking brake, and shift knob add refined style. At the same time, you can enjoy an audio system with six speakers, including two in the driver’s headrests. Your infotainment system runs through a 7.0-inch touchscreen with full color and pinch-to-zoom technology. The multi-function command control knob also controls your infotainment system.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let you plug your smartphone in and access your favorite apps, stream your playlists, make calls, and more. You also get premium programming via Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher streaming services.

2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club Interior

The Club edition has all the same features as the Sport trim with a few notable upgrades. For example, you have premium Black cloth upholstery with gray stitching and three heat settings. In addition, Mazda added Piano Black seat trim and body-color upper door trim for a sophisticated appearance. You can also add the Recaro sports seats as part of the Brembo BBS Recaro package.

You also get a nine-speaker Bose audio system with AudioPilot, driver and passenger headrest speakers, and a subwoofer. Bose AudioPilot automatically adjusts sound output to compensate for background and road noise, a convenient feature for a convertible. Other technology upgrades include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems. Now you can ditch the cords and sync your smart devices for wireless operations. And you get a free trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio.

2023 Mazda MX-5 Grand Touring Interior

Mazda’s Grand Touring adds the luxury features you expect from a top-of-the-range Miata. You can choose between Black or Terra Cotta Nappa leather interiors. Black doorsill trim with stainless steel inserts adds protection that beautifies.

You get Mazda navigation added to your technology suite and a complimentary three-year subscription to SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. Traffic and Travel Link deliver real-time traffic updates, weather, sports scores, directions to parking, and nearby fuel prices.

2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Powertrain

Every Miata comes with Mazda’s 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead cams and 16 valves with variable valve timing and electronically controlled fuel injection technology. Mazda mates this engine with their six-speed manual transmission. As a result, this powertrain makes 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the Grand Touring model has an option for an automatic transmission and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Mazda i-Activesense

Mazda equips every Miata with i-Activesense, a suite of active and passive technologies designed to elevate your drive and help keep you safe. The suite includes an adaptive front lighting system that automatically adjusts the direction of your headlights as you enter and exit corners. In addition, a Smart City Brake Support system detects the traffic ahead and automatically stops your Miata if you react too slowly.

The Blind Spot Monitor system alerts you when vehicles approach or enter your blind spots. Mazda’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert uses similar technology to warn you when a car passes behind you while in reverse. In some situations, this system will apply emergency brake support to help avoid an accident.
